'Discover Egypt: A Historical and Cultural Learning Adventure' program is a unique experience offered exclusively by the American University in Cairo, the leading high-quality educational institution in Egypt. With this archaeological adventure, you will explore Egypt's history and ancient civilizations. This program is your opportunity to walk through the past, while experiencing the present in the streets of the magical city, Cairo.
Learning will be hands-on, allowing you to understand the main social and cultural features of the region. You will also get a crash course in Arabic that will allow you to communicate and interact effectively. This will be your chance to fully experience Egypt's rich culture through excursions meticulously planned for you. You will explore the archaeological sites including the Great Pyramids of Giza, as well as the lavish temples, and tombs in the heart of Cairo. There are many fun-filled social activities that you and your fellow Egyptologists can look forward to!
The goal is to provide participants with a valuable historical and archaeological academic experience while immersing participants in an authentic learning environment. If you have always been keen on history and archaeology in ancient Egypt, a willingness to get out there and have an adventure, this course has your name written all over it!

'Discover Egypt: A Historical and Cultural Learning Adventure' program immerses international participants in Egyptian history and archaeology, and gives a crash course in Egyptian arts, culture and language. As a student on the course, you will examine the past and explore archaeological sites in order to develop a first-hand understanding of Egypt's ancient civilizations.
This course takes an active approach to learning in both the classroom setting and in the field. On campus, classes will in part comprise of multimedia lectures that focus on big questions on society, the environment, beliefs and religions, the economy, politics and power in ancient Egypt. Lectures will further include group discussions and activities; for example, participants will study with published ancient texts and artefacts in their research projects and presentations.
Off campus you will roam the hall's of Egypt's major museums and explore archaeological sites as part of experiential learning. You will gain insight into ancient Egypt and Medieval Cairo while interacting with ancient art, artefacts, pyramids, tombs, temples, markets, and mosques.

The greater Cairo area is packed with ancient and historical sites, museums, and cultural experiences. In this class you will see traces of ancient Egyptian civilization at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo that houses the world's most spectacular collection of ancient Egyptian art and artefacts. You will witness first hand the history of pyramid building and tomb architecture in Egypt at the archaeological sites of Saqqara and Dahshur, as well as the great pyramids of Giza. On these field trips you will climb into pyramids and walk around their great chambers, and wander the tombs while reading hieroglyphs and learning about tombs paintings.
Medieval Cairo was bustling metropolis with grand houses, beautifully constructed mosques and tombs, and marketplaces. You observe changes in art and culture from ancient Egypt to Medieval Egypt at the Coptic Museum and the Islamic Art Museum. You will walk through that historic bizarre in Khan el-Khalili, learn about Islamic architecture at the buildings on Moez street, and see the expanse of historical Cairo from atop the citadel.
At the end of the program, you will get the chance to make a podcast about Egypt's history and tell the story of a site, artifact, or an aspect of Egypt's rich culture. While on your adventures around Cairo you can record sounds of the city to add color and life to your podcasts. Your group will further work at AUC's sound studio to record and produce your stories. On the last day of the course, we will have a listening session and select the best podcast.

BrainGain Academy has collaborated with the American University in Cairo to organize this international program. BrainGain Academy provides administrative support and the university is wholly responsible for reviewing applications and providing all academic content for the program.
The program is open for both domestic (Egypt) and international students and professionals who are at least 18 years and above.

No, flight tickets are not included in the fee. You will have to make individual travel arrangements.
Depending on the passport you hold; you may need to apply for a tourist visa. Visitors to Egypt must obtain a visa from one of the Egyptian diplomatic missions unless they come from one of the visa exempt countries or countries that are eligible for visa on arrival. Check with the Embassy of Egypt in your country for more information. As a rule of thumb, you should give yourself ten business days for the visa to be processed.
If required, we will provide each selected candidate with a visa invitation letter, which can be used to apply for the tourist visa. The visa invitation letter will be issued after receiving your payment and signed forms, but the letter does NOT guarantee successful visa application.
